About Autumn
Autumn makes best-in-class software and digital marketing accessible to independent hotels, B&Bs, resorts, and more. We're passionate about supporting this underserved segment of hoteliers so these unique properties can continue to thrive for generations to come.
We're founded by repeat entrepreneurs with deep hotel experience and backed by Tier 1 venture capital firms, having raised the largest seed round in hotel tech history. We're a tight-knit team based in New York City, working in-person out of our waterfront office in Williamsburg. We're building an AI-native platform that helps independent hoteliers grow revenue, streamline workflows, and deliver better guest experiences.
About the Role
We're hiring a Product Designer to join our founding team and help define how the next generation of hotel software should work and feel. You'll own product experiences from problem definition through shipped product, working directly with founders, engineers, and operators to turn complex workflows into simple, intuitive software.
This is a highly hands-on role. You'll be expected to understand the problem deeply, explore solutions quickly, prototype ideas, talk directly to users, and stay closely involved through implementation. You'll help set the craft bar for everything customers touch.
What You'll Do
- Own product experiences end to end, from problem definition and user research through exploration, prototyping, implementation, and iteration.
- Translate complex hospitality workflows across revenue, marketing, guest management, and operations into interfaces that are easy to understand at a glance.
- Design thoughtful workflows for AI-native products, including how users delegate work, review outputs, maintain control, and recover when systems fail.
- Prototype quickly in Figma, code, or AI-native prototyping tools to test ideas before over-investing in them.
- Work directly with hotel operators to understand their workflows, pain points, behaviors, and needs.
- Partner closely with engineering to ensure the shipped experience matches the intent and balances customer needs with practical constraints.
- Own and evolve our design system across components, patterns, and interaction principles.
- Use qualitative feedback and product data to evaluate what is working and continuously improve the product.
Our Ideal Candidate
- Intensely curious about design, software, technology, and human behavior.
- Obsessed with craft, taste, typography, hierarchy, interaction, and the details that make software feel exceptional.
- Has a portfolio of shipped products that demonstrates strong product thinking, interaction design, and visual execution.
- Excellent at taking complicated systems and workflows and making them feel simple without removing important functionality.
- Comfortable working on dense, operational software rather than only consumer or marketing experiences.
- Biased toward action and rapid iteration, with the ability to move from an ambiguous problem to a testable prototype quickly.
- Comfortable collaborating with engineers and designing within real product constraints.
- Actively uses AI to accelerate research, exploration, prototyping, analysis, and day-to-day design work.
- A clear communicator who can explain the reasoning behind design decisions and cares about business outcomes as much as UI quality.
Requirements
We don't require formal credentials. We do require:
- Exceptional product taste: You have a strong point of view on what makes software intuitive, useful, and well crafted, and can explain the reasoning behind your work.
- Strong product design fundamentals: You are excellent at information architecture, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and systems thinking.
- End-to-end ownership: You can take an ambiguous business or customer problem, develop a point of view, explore solutions, ship, and learn from the result.
- Systems thinking: You can design coherent experiences across a large product rather than treating each screen or feature in isolation.
- Technical collaboration: You can partner effectively with engineers, understand constraints at a practical level, and make thoughtful design tradeoffs.
- AI-native workflow: You use modern AI tools as part of how you think and work and are excited to help define interaction patterns for AI-native software.
- Clear communication: You can articulate product and design decisions clearly to technical and non-technical teammates and respond well to direct feedback.
Traits That Thrive at Autumn
- High agency and self-direction: Acts without waiting for detailed requirements or instructions.
- Small-team intensity: Comfortable working closely and intensely with a small, high-output team.
- Pragmatic problem solving: Challenges assumptions and finds simpler paths forward.
- Quality-driven execution: Detail-oriented with high standards for correctness, usability, and craft.
- Low ego and accountability: Takes full ownership of outcomes and cares more about getting to the right answer than defending their first idea.
Nice to Have
- Experience designing complex B2B, vertical SaaS, workflow, or operational software.
- Experience designing AI-native products or agentic workflows in production.
- Experience working directly with customers and conducting lightweight user research.
- Experience designing data-heavy interfaces, dashboards, or tools for expert users.
- Comfort using modern AI design and prototyping tools to explore ideas quickly.
- Startup experience where you operated with significant ownership and limited process.
- Hospitality, travel, marketplace, or adjacent industry experience.
What This Role Is Not
- A brand-only or marketing-design role.
- A role focused only on high-level strategy or polished mockups without ownership through implementation.
- A design-engineering role where coding depth matters more than product judgment, customer understanding, and craft.
- A slow, highly structured design role with long briefs, large research teams, or separate handoff layers.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and equity.
- Beautiful office in Williamsburg, New York.
- Stipend for lunch and fitness, and top-tier medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- A front-row seat to building an AI-native vertical SaaS company.
Location
This role is four to five days a week in person in New York City and candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
